Why I started Primal Cabinet Painting
I started in the painting trade five years ago and quickly realized two things: most general painters don’t want cabinet work, and the ones that do are mostly using the wrong products. Cabinets are not walls. The pressure they take from hands, oils, and steam is on a different scale, and the hardware-store latex paint that is fine for a hallway will fail on a cabinet door inside two years.
When I learned about Italian Renner, the European industrial 2K polyurethane system that European cabinet manufacturers spray on factory-new cabinetry, I knew that was the standard the Windsor-Essex market was missing. So I built Primal Cabinet Painting around it. Renner is not a marketing claim — it is published on the spec sheet, and it is the only system I spray.
How I run jobs
One kitchen at a time. Five working days, start to finish. I am physically on every job — there is no subcontractor, no “let me check with my crew.” You meet me at the quote, you meet me on day one, and you meet me on day five at the walkthrough. The same person who sprays your cabinets answers your phone calls.
Quotes are flat-rate, written on-site within the hour. No per-door upcharges, no per-square-foot estimates that quietly grow mid-week, no “the materials cost more than I thought” conversations on day three. The number on the quote is the number on the invoice.
What I believe about cabinet refinishing
I believe most kitchens don’t need to be replaced. The boxes are sound, the layout works, the doors are solid. The finish has aged out and that is a $4,000 problem, not a $40,000 one. I have seen homeowners get sold complete tear-outs when a refinish would have made them happier and saved them tens of thousands.
And I believe in honest answers. If a kitchen really does need replacement — water damage in the boxes, particle-board swelling, layout problems we can’t fix with paint — I will tell you on the spot. We’d rather refer you to a cabinet maker than take a refinish job that won’t make you happy.
